French Toast

I don't mean to toot my own horn, but man oh man are these cinnamon-sugar crusted babies delicious. Needing to use up the loaf of bread, I quickly thought of French Toast. Having actually never made them before but meaning to, I knew I would also need eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon, which I happened to have on hand. Was this a sign that these were meant to be made? I took it as a 'yes'. After peering into my spice cabinet, I saw nutmeg and a cinnamon-sugar grinder (found at Trader Joe's.) I knew those would be a nice addition. The best part- (hang on to your hats!) they can be on the table ready to serve in 10 minutes y'all.

  • 5 slices bread
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup - ¾ cup Whole Milk
  • ½ tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • Salt, a small tap
  • Cinnamon, a few taps
  • Nutmeg, half of the amount of taps you used for the cinnamon
  • Cinnamon-Sugar Grinder*
  • Strawberries
  • Confectioner's sugar and maple syrup
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a bowl (wide circumference works best), whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  3. Once skillet is hot, add butter. Generously dip bread in the egg mixture (both sides) once slice at a time.
  4. Place saturated slice in the skillet and cook on both sides for about 2 minutes. *This is where I used the cinnamon-sugar grinder; apply on each side of the toast prior to flipping.
  5. Transfer to a plate and top with your favorite toppings. We like confectioner's sugar, strawberries and maple syrup. Enjoy!
